Description :

Surface Preparation :

  • Remove loose paint, wash off any dirt and grease with detergent, remove mildew stains Scuff sand glossy surfaces.
  • Remove all dust with a damp cloth, allow to dry.
  • Allow new stucco, plaster and masonry to cure for 30 days before priming.
  • Finally, clean up your working area.
  • Use the primer for repaired or uncoated surfaces. Lock in stains with the first primer coat; if necessary, apply a second primer coat.

Application :

  • Use product when the surface and air temperatures are between 10-32°C.
  • Stir paint occasionally. Intermix containers of same product to ensure colour and sheen uniformity.
  • Use a high quality 3/8-1/2" nap roller cover, nylon/polyester brush or an airless sprayer (.015 spray tip)
  • Coverage is 9-12 m2 per litre depending on the surface texture, porosity and application method.
  • Certain colours may require more than one coat for complete hide.

Specification :

New Plaster, Brickwork and Cement:

To the clean, dry, efflorescent-free surface apply a first coat of Vinyl Silk, thinned with 10 percent water, two further full coats are required.

New Hardboard, Fibreboard and Plasterboard, etc.:

To the clean surface apply a first coat of Vinyl Silk thinned with 10 percent water, followed by one or two coats depending on the choice of colour.

Previously Emulsion-Painted Surfaces:

Thoroughly wash down and remove all loose, flaking areas. Apply 2-3 coats of Vinyl Silk depending on choice of colour.

Previously Distempered Surfaces:

Thoroughly remove all the non-washable distemper. The dry surface should then receive one coat Primer Seal followed by two or three coats of Vinyl Silk depending on choice of colour. Allow overnight drying after applying Primer Seal.

Previously Gloss Painted Surfaces:

Thoroughly wash and rub down the surface to remove the gloss. Apply two or three coats of Vinyl Silk depending on choice of colour. Do not use over previously gloss painted surface where the surface is subject to condensation.

Wood and Metal Surfaces:

These surfaces must be prepared with the appropriate primer, for information refer to the Specifications on Hands Free's High gloss oil base finishes.

First Aid :

  • If continued complication is experienced, immediate medical assistance must be taken.
  • If experience problem in breathing, leave the area to get fresh air.
  • Get immediate medical assistance if you somehow swallow the paint
  • If the paint comes in contact with eye right away, flush with lots of water for at least 20 minutes and then rush to obtain medical attention.
  • If the paint gets in contact with skin, wash carefully with mild soap and water

Clean Up :

  • Clean all equipment with water.

Dry Time :

  • Dries to touch in 2 hours at 25°C and 50% humidity, re-coat in 4 hours.
  • Darker colours may need extra dry time between the coats.
  • Extensive dry time needed in higher humidity and in cooler temperatures.
  • After 2-4 weeks, paint film can be cleaned with non-abrasive, mild liquid detergent.
  • Generally, the dry paint film is resistant to mildew.

Important Considerations:

  • Open the can only after reading the afore-mentioned instructions.
  • Prevent from freezing.
  • Increase entry of fresh air before using.
  • For avoiding breathing problems make sure that there is proper entrance for fresh air during application and drying.
  • Get professional advice on experiencing headaches, eye watering or dizziness.
  • Dust mask cannot ensure safety against vapours.
  • Keep away from contact with skin and eyes. Wash carefully after handling.
  • Close container after each use.
  • Sanding or scraping the old alkyd painted surface can cause poisonous lead dust.
  • Exposure to lead dust or fumes may cause brain damage or other adverse health effects, especially in children or pregnant women.
  • Controlling exposure of lead or other hazardous substances requires the use of proper protective equipment such as proper fitted respirator (NIOSH approved) and proper containments.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
